Generative AI for Research

This Research Guide provides information on the use of Generative AI in academic papers and research, and provides guidance on the ethical use of Generative AI in an academic setting.

Currently, most citation styles recommend treating generative AI sources like personal communications, similar to emails or interviews, because the content is generally nonrecoverable. In other words, others can’t access or duplicate your exact AI conversation to evaluate it.

As these technologies develop and sharing conversations becomes more common, citation guidelines may shift. Always check the most current guidance for your citation style before you use it.
