Center for Media and Public Affairs
A nonpartisan research and educational organization which conducts scientific studies of the news and entertainment media, to provide an empirical basis for ongoing debates over media fairness and impact through well-documented studies of media content
Committee to Protect Journalists
An independent, nonprofit organization founded 1981 to promote press freedom worldwide, CPJ lists abuses against the press and acts on behalf of imprisoned and threatened journalists.
CPSR: Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility
A public-interest alliance of computer scientists and others concerned about the impact of computer technology on society.
EFF: Electronic Frontier Foundation
A non-profit, non-partisan organization working in the public interest to protect fundamental civil liberties, including privacy and freedom of expression, in the arena of computers and the Internet.
FAIR: Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting
A national media watch group, which has been offering and documenting criticism of media bias and censorship since 1986, bringing a perspective from the left.
National Communication Association
The oldest and largest national organization to promote communication scholarship and education and works to enhance the research, teaching, and service produced by its members on topics of both intellectual and social significance.
Plains Indian SIgn Language
Wyoming Humanities program on Plains Indian Sign Language (PISL) was developed as a way for Native Americans of different tribes to communicate with each other across the barriers of different languages.

AECJMC
Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication is an international organization of more than 3,300 journalism/mass communication faculty, students, administrators, and professionals.
European Audiovisual Observatory
Set up in Strasbourg in 1992 to reply to a distinct lack of information and transparency concerning this industry. It continues to provide a comparative European overview of the audiovisual industry in 40 different countries as well as detailed analysis of national and even regional industries.
First Nations Communications Toolkit
The First Nations Communications Toolkit is a unique resource jointly developed by Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, BC Region, and Tewanee Consulting Group. The toolkit was originally developed in 2007 and continues to provide a good basic overview of communications planning, activities and tools.
International Communication Association
An international association for scholars interested in the study, teaching and application of all aspects of human and mediated communication.

Enter a search term.
Select "Narrow Your Results" on the left side of the screen.
Check the e-Magazines box and click "Apply."
In the result set, select "Check out in Libby"
Enter your library card and PIN unless you are already signed in.

Searching Tips & Techniques

Before you start your search, try to compile a list of potential keywords. This is always a good idea, but it is especially useful for conducting searches in a field such as Communication.

Use common keywords such as: speech, interpersonal, media, gestures
Search by particular topic such as gender, culture, tradition, ethnicity, Internet
Combine keywords with a topical word (e.g., gesture in communication)
Browse the subject Communication in the Library Catalog, OneSearch, eJournals, Databases, and even the Wyoming State Library.
For best results, try an advanced keyword search using the term nonverbal communication combined with any or all of your identified keywords.
Putting your search term within quotes (e.g., "online communications") may produce more relevant content.

Pro Tip - Once you have found a source that is perfect for your writing assignment, look at that book or article's sources. The author has completed a lot of research on the subject. Using the already researched items is a great way to work smarter, not harder.

Another Tip - Use the filters on your searches. These will appear on the left side of your screen after your initial search. You will be able to refine your searches by content type, discipline, publication date, and more.
